Optimized Production of Second-Generation Bioethanol from a Spent C4 Grass: Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides)

Vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is well-known for its contaminant phytoextraction potential and capacity to reduce soil erosion, owing massive, dense root system. However, the shoots are not major contributors either of these processes, utilized at all or they become part waste stream. It well-recognized that lignocellulosic biomass can serve as a source raw material produce second-generation bioethanol. This study investigated simultaneous saccharification fermentation (SSF) acid–alkali pretreated vetiver (VG) by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. were obtained from three sources: (1) VG grown in clean potting soil, (2) used antibiotics constructed wetland setup, (3) lead during remediation. Bioethanol yield was highest (19.58 g/L), followed one (19.50 g/L) (19.17 g/L). quality superior similar other C4 grasses bioethanol generation. successfully demonstrated spent after applications be repurposed generate high-quality
